manual rifles. It became standard issue for American soldiers, such as myself.

These two photos depict Browning M1919 machine guns that were used by American soldiers during the war. In these photos, the guns are .30 caliber, but many opted to upgrade them to the more powerful .50 caliber. The bottom photo shows one being used on the battlefield.
